COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT)/PREVENTION
SPECIALIST IN TRAINING (PSIT)
The CIT and PSIT designation is provided for individuals during the period in
which they are obtaining the education, training, and experience required to
apply for certification. An individual may be registered as a CIT/PSIT for a
period of no longer than 6 years.

Is at least 18 years of age. |

Is not now, and has not been, a substance abuser or
compulsive gambler for a period of 2 years from the date the application is
received |

Has not been convinced of, pleaded guilty, or entered a plea
of nolo contendere to a felony. The ADRA may waive this requirement for
good cause upon request. The applicant shall provide the ADRA with a
certified copy of his criminal history. |

CIT's/PSIT's must be under the supervision of a qualified
professional. Any person providing substance abuse counseling or
prevention intervention services must be certified by the ADRA or under
qualified supervision. |
Individuals who do not register with the ADRA as a CIT/PSIT will be required
to provide proof of appropriate supervision. This proof will be required at
the time of application for certification, in response to any complaint, and
in response to any challenge.
