Best Practice Advisory -
Housing Clients |
In
the history of recovery it is clear that the practice of Bill Wilson and
others was to house and feed those with whom they were working. It is
important, however, to distinguish between 12 step work and clinical
treatment. The ADRA Board urges counselors to guard against eroding the
clinical relationship. It is suggested that by housing clients in one’s home
a counselor runs the risk of undermining their effectiveness as a counselor
and may sabotage the client’s treatment.
